Hanukkah story · ages 2-7

A personalized Hanukkah book starring your child

Eight nights of candles, crispy latkes, jelly doughnuts and a cat named Latke who keeps stealing the dreidel. Each night your child helps light the menorah and hears the story of the little jar of oil that lasted. Then your little one notices a dark window across the street, where a neighbor is spending Hanukkah alone.

Your child decides to share the light, and when a snowstorm knocks out the power on the eighth night, the family finds out how far a little light can go. It's a warm, funny Hanukkah story told from inside a family that celebrates. Your child is painted into all 14 illustrations of this 32-page picture book.

Inside the book

Rosie and the Light That Lasted: a few pages

Sample illustration
Every night, one more candle joined the row. There were latkes, crispy and golden, with applesauce AND sour cream, because Rosie could never choose. There were jelly doughnuts that gave everyone sugar mustaches. And there was the dreidel, spinning, spinning, spinning...
Sample illustration
Rosie was the champion dreidel spinner. Spin! It landed — and Rosie won the whole pile of chocolate coins! Then Latke pounced on the dreidel and batted it under the couch. Everyone laughed. It took four people and a broom to get it back.

Then Rosie looked at the window. The menorah! Its little flames were still glowing, steady and bright, as if nothing had happened. “A little light can last a long time,” said Rosie. “Just like the oil in the Temple.”

Questions

Is the Hanukkah story respectful of the traditions?

Yes. It's written from the point of view of a child whose family celebrates: lighting the menorah with the shamash each night, the story of the oil, latkes, jelly doughnuts and dreidel, with warmth rather than lessons.

Will a printed copy arrive in time for Hanukkah?

Printed books are made to order and take time to print and ship, so order early; delivery estimates are shown at checkout. The ebook is ready within minutes.
